Meet Moray - endurance cyclist

I’ve been working with Moray for a couple of years now preparing him for the challenging Haute Route events which culminate each year in two 7-day back-to-back events in the Alps & Pyrenees. These are really tough events with riders having to deal with long climbs, fast/technical descents, high altitude & very changeable weather. It’s basically ride, eat, drink, rest, repeat!

Moray is a very experienced cyclist & so my role tends to be more as physiologist than technical cycling coach. A lot of my work involves preparing Moray's annual training plan as part of the PERFORMANCE coaching package, monitoring his training load & performance. We always review the previous year, identify strengths & weaknesses & then chat about his goals/aspirations for the coming year. This helps me identify the physiological demands of trying to meet those performance goals & plan the necessary training blocks.

Meet Leanne - ultra runner

During 2020, I’ve been working with Leanne as she prepared for the UTM Mont Blanc CCC race in the Alps. This is a mountain race, with numerous high altitude (+2500m) trails, tricky weather conditions that require training, special equipment & self-sufficiency. The cancellation of the event meant we had to change the longer term plan the plan & shift the focus to some shorter term ‘fun’ stepping-stone challenges. Having the flexibility to reset, shift priorities & set shorter term goals is really important. It allows you to focus on really building the base endurance & helps maintain motivation.

Meet Holly - running, fitness & well-being

Holly loves running & enjoys being part of the running community in Brighton & Hove. Although Holly wants to improve her 5 & 10-km performance times, running forms just one part of Holly's active lifestyle. In addition to running, Holly enjoys cycling, hiking, yoga, swimming, stand up paddle boarding & strength & conditioning classes. My challenge is to incorporate all this into a training plan, that also focuses on her performance goals!
