Physiological testing

Physiological performance tests help provide you with a benchmark of your current fitness, assess the effectiveness of your training and provide you with bespoke physiological data to inform your training programme and optimise your performance.

All testing is specifically tailored to your individual needs and performance requirements.

lactate threshold TEST

Assess your body's lactate response to exercise in order to better understand how to optimise your training and performance. It has three main objectives: 1) provide you with a detailed lactate profile, 2) identify lactate thresholds & associated heart rate/workload and 3) provide you with
accurate training zones.

Details

For cycling, the test will be performed using your own bike and a Wahoo Kickr. The test is a sub-maximal test and involves a graded protocol where heart rate and blood lactate responses to an increasing work rate are quantified. The work rate increases at regular intervals until you reach a point where your blood lactate response has reached the second lactate threshold point (perhaps more familiarly known as functional threshold power). Each stage will be even paced and graded from ‘easy’ to ‘hard’. Heart rate and blood lactate will be measured at the end of stage.

A detailed physiological report will be sent to you after the test containing recommendations on how to utilise the test data to optimise your training and your updated training zones.

Bespoke physiological tests for other endurance sports such as running and triathlon can be designed on request.
